Pepsi Theme:
------------
Author: Cookie Monster (Frederic Oriol)
E-mail: goriol@po-box.mcgill.ca
Version: 2.0 (New and Improved!)
(Up)Date: 02/08/96
Here comes the Next Generation of the Pepsi theme for Microsoft Plus! This version
has much more than the first, while keeping a reasonable size of 1.6 Mb. So, just to
keep going, let's see what's new:
_ The screen saver has been changed for a smaller one, and now comes as I downloaded
it (as a .exe compressed file, pepsboun.exe), so that you may install it yourself.
Each system having its own quirks, I found this to be the best way to distribute it!
(and besides, there were a lot of problems with the last screen saver...)
_ There is a new wallpaper, Pepsi Diet wallpaper.bmp, for thos who want to keep their
line thin while enjoying the great taste of Pepsi (or the buzz of aspartame...)
This wallpaper was first asked by a lady (I forgot her name), and I thought that
it would be a great idea to include it in this version.
_ There is an animated startup logo (Pepsi Startup Logo.sys), not very good because
the file I startted with had only 16 colors, but still nice enough to welcome you
when you open your computer. NB: this is only my second try at palette animation,
so don't be too severe please!
_ There are a Warning logo (Pepsi logow.sys) and a Shutdown logo (Pepsi logos.sys),
both featuring Pepsi Max.
_ There are 4 animated cursors, made by two other guys and sent to me after my
request in the first version. Unfortunately, I lost their names, but I have to
thank them both for their good work.
What's old: The sounds, the Pepsi wallpaper, and the icons.
Installation:
-------------
1. If you intend to use the startup logo, and/or the Warning and Shutdown logos,
Backup your current logos: c:\logo.sys, and logow.sys and logos.sys in your
windows folder. I recommend backing them up in the sysbckup folder, under your
windows folder. I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF YOU CANNOT GET YOUR OLD LOGOS
BACK.
2. Now, unzip (with WinZip for example) everything starting with Pepsi in your
Themes folder (for example, c:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes\)
3. Unzip the file pepsboun.exe to a temporary folder, and then run this file: it
will uncompress to give the file pepsvoun.scr. Put this file in your system
folder, under the windows folder (c:\windows\system\). The Pepsi Bounce screen
saver is now available in the control panel! NB: The file splits itself into two
files: pepsboun.scr, a 105kb file that stays in the folder where you put it, and
pepsboun.avi, a video file that goes into your windows folder. This last file is
BIG (2 Mb), so you might want to remove the screen saver if you need to free some
space on your computer.
4. To install the animated startup logo, copy Pepsi Startup logo.sys to a temporary
folder, rename it to logo.sys, and move this file to your c:\ directory.
5. To install the warning logo, copy Pepsi logow.sys to a temporary folder, rename it
logow.sys, and move that file to your windows folder. For the shutdown logo, do
the same thing with the file Pepsi logos.sys --> logos.sys...
Well, that's it! Choose the Pepsi theme in the Desktop Themes section of the control
panel, and your computer is now completely Pepsidized! Now go get a pepsi, you deserve
it after all these instructions...
... You're back? Cool! This is where I tell you how the theme was made, what I used,
etc. You may skip that part if it's too boring!
Programs used: Cool Edit 95 (sounds)
Paint Shop Pro (Graphics)
Michaelangelo (icons, cursor modification)
XrX animated logo utility (Startup Logo)
Source of the graphics and sounds: Jess's Pepsi Place (http://www.fn.net/~joakley/)
Source of the screen saver and graphics: Australian Pepsi page
(http://www.on.net/clients/pepsi/pepsi/)
This page is full of Pepsi stuff, and you
can get other screen savers (or the bigger
version of the one included with the theme)
I really hope you like the new and improved theme, and would very much welcome
some feedback at goriol@po-box.mcgill.ca. If there's anything you don't like, like
the colors of the startup screen, then let's discuss it and maybe we'll find a way
to make this theme (enve) better.
Enjoy Pepsi!
Cookie Monster
LEGAL STUFF: This theme is freeware and is not sponsored by Pepsi, or any other
company for that matter (Although I'd like to know if the People at
Pepsi like this theme...) and is for the enjoyment of everyone.
Peace and love on earth, and recycle your cans and bottles!
